Bio Summary

My name is Stephen Marshall and I am a highly experienced Business Architect, specialising in helping organisations with business and operating model design and analysis, business model innovation, and business strategy/operational alignment.

I was a Senior Management Consultant with IBM Global Business Services for more than a decade. I was also one of the first consultants to achieve IBM Professional Certification in Business Architecture. With this qualification, I was the lead consultant on several major transformation projects including:

• Creating an Enterprise Architecture capability at a large university. Reporting to the CIO, I led the EA development program from its inception, establishing the architectural vision and strategy, defining the business and technology architectures, and then guiding the deployment teams on how to implement the Transformation Roadmap. • Developing a target operating model and transition plan to help a downstream petroleum company transform its supply chain and retail operations into a market-leading position. • Redesigning the business processes and workflow for New Zealand’s Earthquake Commission to help manage the 450,000+ insurance claims resulting from Canterbury’s earthquake disasters.

I am a Certified Business Architect (CBA®) with the Business Architecture Guild and a Master Certified Architect (Open CA®) with The Open Group. In addition, I have been a member of the Business Architecture Guild’s Editorial Board, and an advisor on The Open Group’s Business Architecture Workstream, helping to develop the business architecture content for the next version of TOGAF.

Over the last few years, I have published a number of white papers, Open Group Guides, and contributions to the Business Architecture Body of Knowledge (BIZBOK). These covered topics such as business capability and value stream mapping, business model innovation, and Target Operating Model design.

I am currently based in the north of Portugal (near Porto), and am fully set up to work remotely.
