Selected Project Experience

Project Description:
Outpatient Optimisation Programme -Implementation of process improvements, capacity modelling, master scheduling to assist service improvements and cost savings programme. Programme Scope Implemented a process improvement methodology which included the following: • Conducted Stakeholder interviews with ADs, CDs, Service Managers, CLs, Consultants, Nurses, and administrators to understand problems & opportunities within OPD. • Developed a Project Charter and Project Mandate • Conducted LEAN Awareness Sessions • 1-hour session designed to spread awareness of Lean. • Conducted LEAN Basic Training Sessions • The session provided participants with an insight into the fundamentals of Lean and Change Acceleration Process. • Facilitated 1-day Value Stream Mapping Session • End-to-end process mapping of hospital led clinic cancellations from leave request to re-booked patient appointment. Programme Deliverables • The Master Schedule highlighted 2220 unutilised consultant-led sessions between Apr – Dec 2012 across 17 specialties • For 3 specialties* (T&O, Ophthalmology, Rheumatology) missed income is approx. £260K (for 9 months) • The Hospital-led Cancellation Analysis identified 200 clinics cancelled with <6weeks notice. • For 3 specialties incurred approx. £65K cancellation costs** (for 9 months) • The Action Plans that emerged from the Value Stream Mapping and Rapid Improvement Event focused around 3 key themes: • Amending and confirming the Trust Leave Policy • Implementing a leave request and management system in line with the Trust Leave Policy • Implementing an OPD scorecard to monitor and improve service performance and increase clinical ownership thereof.
